Norway’s main provider of occupational pensions for the public sector
Success story
The Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (Statens pensjonskasse or SPK) is Norway’s main provider of public occupational pensions for employees in the public sector. The organisation also provides housing loans and insurance schemes to members, and financial support to dependants.

SPK's history traces back to 1814 with the establishment of its predecessor. In 1917, SPK, as it is known today, was founded, making the organisation more than 100 years old.
Norwegian pension systems have been through many reforms and changes in the last few years. As the pension landscape evolved, SPK has consistently demonstrated a forward-thinking and innovative mindset, and has been at the forefront of embracing technology and leveraging innovation to meet the evolving needs of its members and stakeholders.
Presently, SPK manages the housing loan system for government employees. With a focus on meeting the evolving requirements of their customers and maintaining their position at the forefront of pension services, the organisation is determined to introduce a fully modernised solution. The new platform is set to launch in 2024 and it will be Norway's most cutting-edge and user-friendly solution in the market.
To achieve its goals, SPK sought a platform and partner that would provide a cohesive and user-friendly application and loan solution, which would work intuitively for customers, in line with the Norwegian government’s digitalisation strategy.
The composable approach empowers SPK to build and enhance products and services in a digital-first, highly configurable, and secure manner, ensuring a rapid implementation process.
To modernise its housing loan solution, SPK partnered with Mambu and Knowit, a Nordics-based digital consultancy. This strategic partnership leverages Knowit's regional expertise and Mambu's cloud banking solution to enable SPK to introduce a fully-digital and customer-centric solution in the Norwegian market.
The composable approach empowers SPK to build and enhance products and services in a digital-first, highly configurable, and secure manner, ensuring a rapid implementation process. With Mambu's robust cloud technology complemented by Knowit's loan origination expertise and rich sector experience, SPK can deliver a personalised user experience tailored to each customer's unique daily life and specific needs.
By connecting Knowit’s Dploy solution, which is its in-house loan application system, with Mambu - SPK enjoys a frictionless, front-to-back digital experience for its new housing loan offering. The result is a complete application and housing loan track, to be deployed in 2024.
