About the customer

OMT (Online Money Transfer) is a pioneer in Lebanon’s financial services sector. Established in 1998 as the first accredited agent of Western Union in the country, OMT has grown into a market leader with a nationwide network of over 1,400 agent locations. The company commands more than 80% market share of all electronic money transfers in Lebanon, supporting 150,000 families each month with cash and USD remittances.

Headquartered in Beirut, OMT employs more than 300 Lebanese professionals and offers over 150 services across partnerships with telecom operators, government agencies, private companies, and international donors. The company is licensed and regulated by the Central Bank of Lebanon and complies with international standards from OFAC, the EU, and the UK.

The challenge

Cash-heavy model limiting customer experience

Before launching OMT Pay, the company operated a physical-first business model, heavily reliant on in-person transactions across its 14 branches and 1,400+ agent locations. Customers had no way to store or manage funds digitally, and the dependence on cash created inefficiencies, increased security risk, and limited overall convenience.

Market expectations were also shifting. Lebanese consumers were looking for mobile-first financial services, mirroring global fintech trends.

But OMT’s traditional infrastructure couldn’t keep up with the pace of innovation or the complexity that comes with scaling. Any future-facing solution would need to be highly secure, flexible, and fully compliant with Lebanese and international regulations.

OMT needed a modern platform to digitise its services efficiently and cost-effectively. The goal was to launch a secure, user-friendly digital wallet (OMT Pay) to reduce cash dependency, expand digitally, and stay fully aligned with regulatory requirements.

The solution

A platform built for digital-first financial services

OMT explored multiple providers before selecting Mambu. What set Mambu apart was its composable approach, which allowed the team to customise and build OMT Pay’s infrastructure in a modular, flexible way. Mambu’s API-first design made it easy to integrate with OMT’s existing systems, including payment processors and compliance tools.

The platform also met all key security and compliance requirements, both local and international. Just as important, Mambu enabled a faster, more cost-efficient go-to-market than traditional solutions—without the need for a full systems overhaul. Mambu’s agility and configurability allowed OMT to quickly launch OMT Pay, integrate services like money transfers and bill payments, and introduce modern digital features without heavy infrastructure costs.

“What made the implementation successful was the agile collaboration between all parties, iterative testing, and clear communication. Strong support from Mambu ensured rapid issue resolution. A phased rollout approach, paired with continuous user feedback, helped refine the platform and optimise adoption.”

The implementation

From concept to launch in 5 months

The OMT Pay implementation was completed in just five months. A cross-functional team from OMT worked across product, UX, engineering, and compliance to bring the vision to life. The process was streamlined thanks to Mambu’s API-driven structure, which enabled seamless integration with OMT’s core systems, financial partners, and third-party providers.

Hosting OMT Pay in the cloud, underpinned by Amazon Web Services (AWS) brought the scalability needed to handle high transaction volumes, along with enterprise-grade security and uptime. AWS made it possible to maintain high availability and performance while keeping infrastructure costs low—an important factor in delivering reliable digital services across Lebanon.

The result

A modern digital wallet at national scale

Launching its digital wallet, OMT marked the first step in its strategic vision to become Lebanon’s leading digital wallet. OMT Pay launched with strong traction, onboarding 35,000 customers in the first month alone. Customer engagement quickly followed, with an 8% increase in active user sessions. The platform now handles around 60,000 transactions per month, with transaction volumes growing steadily at 7% month over month.

Mambu’s composable architecture reduced time to market and made it easier for OMT to launch new features at a lower incremental cost. Faster development, smoother onboarding, and better reliability have improved customer satisfaction. Building on this, OMT is now preparing to scale its fintech offering further – expanding the OMT Pay merchant network, launching business wallets for SMEs, and exploring new financial products like micro-lending and planning tools.

“Mambu’s scalable and flexible architecture has enabled us to offer a seamless, secure, and efficient digital financial experience, reinforcing OMT’s position as Lebanon’s leading financial institution.”

- Chirine Khalaf, Digital Customer Experience Deputy Manager, OMT
